Balinese Massage in Dubai

A traditional Indonesian treatment, and the one on our menu that does the most different things in an hour. Long oil strokes carry the sequence, but gentle stretching, pressure points and reflexology are worked in alongside them, which is what the tradition holds stimulates the flow of blood, lymph and energy. It is firm without being narrow, and it runs at our DIFC branch.

What the hour is made of

Four things, in one sequence. Most oil massages do the first of them and stop there.

The base is the same long oil stroke you would recognise from a Swedish massage, and it keeps the hour moving. What sits on top of it is what makes the treatment Indonesian rather than European: the therapist takes a limb through a gentle stretch rather than only working over it, holds pressure on specific points instead of gliding past them, and gives the feet reflexology work rather than treating them as the last thing on the list.

The result is firm but broad. Nothing is driven into a single knot the way deep tissue does it, and nothing is held long enough to hurt. If the Swedish massage reads as too passive to you and deep tissue as too pointed, this is the one that sits between them — worth naming at the start rather than after twenty minutes on the table.

Balinese, Swedish or deep tissue

Three ways of working the whole body at DIFC, at three prices. The difference is technique, not effort.

Balinese Massage
420 AED for an hour, 630 for ninety minutes, 800 for two hours. Strokes plus stretching, pressure points and reflexology. Firm, and across everything.
Classical Swedish Massage
550 AED for an hour. Long draining strokes at steady medium pressure, whole body, and nothing else layered on. The quieter of the two.
Deep Tissue Massage
630 AED for an hour. Slow, narrow and firm on one stubborn area rather than spread over the body. Book it for a knot, not for an evening.

Where else Balinese appears on the menu

Two other lines at DIFC are built on it, and both work out cheaper than booking the parts separately.

With the Moroccan bath
The two hour package pairs the hammam scrub with deep tissue or Balinese for 950 AED, and drops to 725 if you start before 15:00. The bath comes first, so oil goes onto scrubbed skin.
In the couples room
Balinese is one of the two styles the couple room is staffed for, alongside aromatherapy. One of you can take it while the other has the slower oil sequence.
On its own
An hour at 420 AED covers the body once. The extra thirty minutes at 630 buys unhurried stretching rather than more areas, since the sequence already covers everything.

Balinese Massage questions

What actually happens in a Balinese massage?

+

Four techniques inside one sequence rather than one technique repeated. Long oil strokes carry the hour and would be familiar from any European massage. On top of them the therapist takes limbs through gentle stretches instead of only working over them, holds pressure on specific points rather than gliding past, and gives the feet proper reflexology work rather than a token finish. In the Indonesian tradition that combination is held to stimulate the flow of blood, lymph and energy; what we can promise plainly is that you get more variety in the hour than a single technique gives, and firm work across the whole body. It is not a medical treatment and none of our therapists is a physiotherapist, so if you are dealing with a recent injury see a doctor first. It runs 60, 90 or 120 minutes at 420, 630 and 800 AED, and the longer bookings mostly buy unhurried stretching rather than extra areas.

How firm is it, and will it hurt?

+

Firm, and it should not hurt. The pressure sits above a Swedish massage and below deep tissue: real weight behind the stroke, but spread across the whole body rather than driven into one spot and held there. Pressure points are held long enough to register and released, not leaned on until you flinch, and the stretching is taken to the edge of comfortable range rather than past it. Say at the start how firm you want it and say again on the table if it is not right, because pressure is adjusted as the therapist goes and half the hour is wasted being polite about it. Guests who bruise easily or who found deep tissue too much usually get on well with this one. If you want the same whole body coverage with no firmness at all, the Classical Swedish massage at 550 AED is the quieter booking and the therapist will say so if you ask.

Should I book Balinese or deep tissue?

+

Ask whether the problem is spread out or in one place. Balinese covers the whole body at firm pressure and mixes stretching and pressure points into it, which suits general tightness after a long week, and it is 420 AED for an hour at DIFC. Deep tissue is 630 and goes narrow and slow into one stubborn area, with mild soreness the next day as a normal outcome, which is the right tool for a knot that has not moved in a month. The price gap is real but it should not decide it: booking the cheaper one for a deep tissue problem wastes both the hour and the money. If you genuinely want both, the ninety minute Balinese at 630 leaves the therapist room to spend longer where you point. Neither carries an Early Bird rate on its own; the only daytime discount they touch is inside the two hour hammam package.

Which branch offers the Balinese massage?

+

DIFC only, on floor 45 of the Residence Inn by Marriott at 115 Sheikh Zayed Road, in Trade Centre Second. It is a line on the DIFC menu and does not appear at Al Barsha or Bur Dubai, whose menus run the European treatments and, at Bur Dubai, the Moroccan bath. The branch is open from 10:00 until midnight seven days a week and rates 4.8 from 136 guests on its Google profile; reception answers on +971 56 395 8899, on WhatsApp at the same number and on Telegram. Prices at DIFC already contain the 5% VAT, so the 420 AED printed here is what you settle at the desk rather than a figure that grows there, which is not true of our other two branches. The same address holds the couples room and the hammam, so Balinese is the one branch where it can be sequenced with either on a single visit.

Can I have the Balinese with the Moroccan bath?

+

Yes, and it is one of the two versions of our two hour hammam package rather than something to arrange on the spot. The package pairs the bath with either deep tissue or Balinese and costs 950 AED, and it drops to 725 if the appointment starts before 15:00, which is the largest Early Bird saving on the DIFC list. The order is fixed for a reason: the bath runs first, the kessa glove lifts the outer layer of skin, and oil goes into skin that takes it properly instead of dragging. Booking the two as separate items on the same visit costs more and gains nothing, so ask reception for the package by name. The other version of the package swaps Balinese for the Classical Swedish massage and costs 900 AED, but that one has no Early Bird rate, so before 15:00 the Balinese version is both the firmer treatment and the cheaper booking.
